How does the E-clutch work? Honda’s E-Clutch system automatically controls clutch operation using electronic sensors and actuators, reducing the need for manual clutch input during starts, stops and gear shifts. The setup manages clutch engagement based on factors such as throttle input, engine speed and gear position. Riders can shift gears using the foot lever without operating the clutch manually, while the system also handles clutch engagement when moving off from a standstill and disengages it during stops to prevent stalling. During gear changes, the clutch is briefly disengaged and re-engaged automatically to ensure smoother shifts.Despite the added automation, the system retains the characteristics of a conventional manual motorcycle. Riders continue to have full control over gear selection, and the clutch lever remains operational at all times, allowing manual override whenever required. Honda says the technology has been developed to reduce rider fatigue, particularly in stop-and-go traffic conditions where repeated clutch operation can become tiring. The system is also aimed at improving comfort during long-distance riding by reducing physical effort while maintaining the manual riding experience.
